Had the draw bridge open the Saturday of 4th of July weekend in 2011. Traffic was already backed up from Ocean Parkway to mainland, this didn't help the situation. Boat traffic and waterways were used well before cars were invented, so boats always have the right of way. If you plan on having the Captree Drawbridge opened, it is wise to call ahead because the same bridge tender controls Meadowbrook and Wantagh Drawbridges. If the tender is at one of those bridges, it will take him about an hour to get to the Captree Drawbridge and get it open.
